Lloyd is a self-disciplined and highly goal-driven Industrial Psychology Honours graduate. He is currently a Master's candidate completing his second year of M.Com in Industrial Psychology at the University of the Free State. Lloyd joined IkamvaYouth as a learner in 2012, after matriculating he came back and volunteered as a tutor for the duration of his undergraduate studies at UKZN. He later worked as an Intern in the Chesterville branch. His passion for youth empowerment and inclusion has grown enormously through his time and experience gained within IkamvaYouth and has inspired him to provide career guidance to young township people. He is currently working at the Umlazi Branch as a Branch Assistant.

Hope is a seasoned leader with over 10 years of senior management experience that includes leading a Pan African NGO as MD as well as a major international NGO as joint CEO. He holds a BCom Honours Degree in Business Management as well as a Masters in Business Leadership from UNISA. Hope is a passionate humanitarian, primarily driven by making a difference in people’s lives. Empowering people through education is dear to Hope’s heart and is one of the reasons he is thrilled to be part of an organisation that is leading in addressing the education and socio-economic challenges that the majority of South African youth face today. Hope’s aspiration for the organisation’s future is that IkamvaYouth will assist South Africa move closer to what Nelson Mandela envisioned regarding education when he said “Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor; that the son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation. It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another”

I am an accomplished business administrator and I enjoy using my skills to contribute, assist and save execution time with the aid of handling procedures methodically and strategically. Before joining IY, I worked as an Executive Administrator at the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa where I supported the Group Executive of Project Services. I hold a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics from the University of Pretoria. I am really looking forward to working with you all, forging great relationships that go beyond our call of duty and to continue making a difference in the lives of those we encounter.

Patrick Mashanda

Patrick is a passionate Community Development professional who joined IkamvaYouth in 2012. He began his journey as a District Coordinator for Gauteng, and currently oversees all national programmes across the organisation. Patrick has worked as an educator and a researcher on educational and psychosocial issues in South Africa. He further extended his researching skills and worked for a SABC 2 talk show 'Hola Ha Monate'. Patrick has been involved with International NGOs, working to empower children in his capacity of Project Manager for CARE Germany and Stars of Tomorrow. Patrick also co-founded Hope Warriors Children's Charity, a community-based initiative aimed at helping children in Soshanguve. He has a B.A Honours Degree in Development Studies from the Midlands State University and he believes that education is a sure and sustainable way of emancipating the children and youth of Africa from the cycle of poverty.

Shuvai holds an MPhil in Development Studies and a Bachelor of Social Work from UCT. She joined IkamvaYouth as a Branch Coordinator in early 2012. As Branch Coordinator she put her social work skills to use, working with learners and volunteers at the branch, to ensure that young people got the empowerment that IkamvaYouth aims to impart to them. Shuvai then moved on to head IkamvaYouth's Internal Communications department while being Executive Assistant to the Director, where her excellent communication and writing skills were put to use. In this role, she offered support to Ikamva Youth's executive team and board of directors. Currently, she heads Project Management in the organisation, where she plans and organises all major organisational events and oversees the team of national administrators. Shuvai is passionate about creating and maintaining processes that make work easier, as well as enabling other people to learn and develop themselves to their full potential.

Lungile grew up in Cape Town, Makhaza. He has been involved in the after-school space for more than 5 years. Lungile holds 3 leadership certificates from the University of Stellenbosch and is currently furthering his studies at Unisa. He stated that Youth Development is his passion and that seeing young people from townships reach their full potential brings a smile to him.

 

Voyulwethu is an Applied Communication Management graduate from the University of Fort Hare. Having previously worked as a Desktop Publisher, Vuyolwethu has experience in the Communication field.  She joined IkamvaYouth in 2018 as an intern at the Kuyasa branch, where she learned the importance of collaboration and peer-to-peer support while interacting with different personalities. Currently, Vuyolwethu is a Branch Assistant at Kuyasa and when asked about her experience at IkamvaYouth, she said "it feels good to be a part of the IY family tree. Being at Ikamva reminds me of words shared by Les Brown which say, help others achieve their dreams and you will achieve yours".

Andrea Pietersen was born and raised in the vibrant and 'kwaai' cultured area of Atlantis where she is currently based as a Branch Assistant. She has been with Ikamvayouth since 2017 and has been a pillar for the continued growth of the Atlantis branch. Currently, she is obtaining her Local Government Finance qualification at the University of South Africa and will continue her post-graduate studies in education. She has been active in numerous non-profit community outreach programs throughout her life, leading and uplifting young people. Phelela is originally from the Eastern Cape in Tsolo village but lives in Cape Town, Khayelitsha. She is a Retail Business Management graduate from CPUT. Phelela was once a learner at Ikamva during my high school days from 2006-2008. She is a Programme Coordinator at Kuyasa branch. Phelela's experience working at Ikamva has been amazing. She started working for IY during winter school 2016, it just reminded her of the days when she was a student. Seeing learners engaging themselves in the tutoring space and the commitment of tutors has just reminded her of why she came back to work for Ikamva.

Sechaba joined our Ebony Park Branch in 2014 where he experienced its profound impact on the community and schools. As an IkamvaYouth alumni he became the Head of Library, transforming a storage room into a library. Inspired by his volunteer experience, he expanded to the IkamvaYouth Ivory Park branch as an Interim Branch Assistant and later as an intern at our Mamelodi branch. Sechaba now covers three of the four IkamvaYouth branches and hopes to understand IkamvaYouth's origins and founders' vision from 2003.

Thandazo is a young, responsible, and conscientious individual with over 5 years' experience in the social development field. She acquired a BA General Degree (Psychology and Sociology) at UKZN and joined IkamvaYouth in 2013 as a Branch Assistant, she later advanced to assume her role as a Branch Coordinator in 2015. Thandazo is drawn towards forming relationships through working with people, more especially young people. She enjoys being part of a driven and innovative team and desires to see people and communities being transformed for the better. Thandazo is currently the District Manager for IkamvaYouth branches that are located in both the Eastern Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal region.

Sihle was born and raised in Umlazi, he is the current branch assistant at the Umlazi branch, he joined ikamvayouth as a learner in grade10 then came back to volunteer in the organization, his unmatched passion for community work and after school program started to take direction, in 2021 he was appointed as an intern at the same branch for 6 months then moved to a temporary branch assistant position at our Chesterville Branch. He calls myself a game changer because he believes he changed people's perception towards assisting one another. He aims to make an impact either through Ikamvayouth or his personal life. He is also a huge fan of the young people of this country. He is disciplined and focused on his work. He believes that unity and collaboration are two things that we need to indoctrinate our young people with.
We don't actually exist as people to anybody. We exist through the ideas we give to the world.

Phillip is 24 years of age and is the firstborn of 3 children. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching soccer and exercising as it also keeps him fit. Phillip joined IkamvaYouth in 2012 as a grade 10 learner and later matriculated in 2015. After his high school studies, Phillip returned to occupy the caretaker position and is currently studying through Siyakhula Computer School and IQ Academy. Phillip plans to pursue Sports Science as a career due to his interest in sports.

As someone with a great passion for youth betterment, he has been working in the youth development industry for the past six years, during that time he has worked hard to develop professionally and is continuing to grow and learn. Sakhile  joined IkamvaYouth as Chesterville Branch Assistant in October 2015, where he contributed to the stability and success of the branch in the process growing as an individual and understanding the IY culture. He has recently joined the Gauteng team as Mamelodi Branch Coordinator where he seeks new opportunities, challenges, and to strengthen his position in being a valuable member of the IkamvaYouth team. Sakhile's compassion and empathy shine through to make him an approachable figure to the youth he serves.
