Andrew Barrett holds a Masters in Philosophy from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) and was awarded the Wits Postgraduate Merit Award in 2006. He also holds a BA in Psychology (2003) and completed the Social Entrepreneurship Certificate Programme (2010) at the Gordon Institute for Business Science (GIBS) where his Action Learning Project on Scaling IkamvaYouth won best ALP.
Prior to his involvement with IkamvaYouth, Andrew worked for two years for the Department of Social Services in the United Kingdom and for a variety of NGOs in South Africa. He is also co-founder and director of the Section 21 company, Siyakhula Education Foundation.
Andrew is passionate about sustainable development and community upliftment from grassroots up. He is unwavering in his contention that education is key to South Africa’s future aspirations and he holds strongly to the view that liberation comes through education.
