IkamvaYouth is a township-based volunteer programme that gets learners out of poverty through education. The organisation exists to reduce inequality in South Africa, and its track record of matric results, access to post-school opportunities, and alumni success is proof that positive change is possible.

The Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of this position is to manage and oversee the implementation of IkamvaYouth’s Model across regional branches and to ensure smooth running of the region which includes; providing support to staff, coordinating regional activities and ensuring that branches achieve best possible outcomes regarding learner retention, volunteer attendance and engagement, matric results and post-school placements.

The District Manager WC will report to the Programme Manager. The position will be based in Cape Town.

Salary: R 303,207. 12 per annum


KPA1: Regional Objectives & Overseeing Regional Branches

  • Oversee operations of the region
  • Set regional objectives and design a framework in which objectives can be achieved
  • Take overall responsibility for the day to day operations of the region
  • Meaningfully and fully participate in organisational meetings and dialogue for the strategic direction and growth of the organisation nationally
  • Provide guidance with regards to RegCom, SPWs and BranchComs, team meetings to the various branches

KPA2: Administration

  • Act as custodian of all the branch documentation
  • Ensure that all staff are aware of and implementing all IY policies
  • Inform the Technology department of all faulty, damaged and/or lost asset
  • Drive communication regarding the safety of assets in the region
  • Ensure implementation of IY policies and processes at branches throughout the region with regards to learners, tutors and volunteers

KPA3: Supporting Branches in Implementing IY Programmes Model

  • Assume primary responsibility to coordinate and guide the effective and quality delivery of the IkamvaYouth model
  • Oversee all aspects of the model implementation, including administrative and data-capturing
  • Compile Report writing (narrative and financial);
  • Support branches with regards to programme delivery challenges by;
  • Support the branches to ensure that the IY Model is being effectively implemented
  • Report challenges/concerns that prevent the effective implementation of the model
  • Escalating unresolved delivery challenges to Programme Manager & Natcom;
  • Actively participate in in setting up of branches in the region, which includes;
  • Doing research on possible branches in terms of feasibility, accessibility and safety
  • Ensuring branch targets are reached
  • Strategic analysis of branch needs year on year, based on growth plans
  • Providing Programme Manager with an update in terms of growth in the region
  • Threats and challenges are addressed (e.g venues safety & security and procurement of furniture and/or computer lab equipment)
  • Hold site visits every second week
  • Provide support as and when needed outside of the regular site visits
  • Provide guidance regarding branch events such as;
  • Provide oversight to ensure timely attendance to volunteer queries

KPA4: Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Oversee region’s data collection
  • Schedule and write funder reports (including the financial report) as guided by Fundraising team, with input from branches
  • Contribute to grant proposals with accurate data
  • Attending (and/or running) donor meetings, site visits and events as and when needed
  • Providing feedback to Programme Manager and fundraising team
  • Ensure active participation and contributions to the Quarterly M&E meetings

KPA5: Stakeholder Management

  • Develop, build and maintain strategic cross-sectoral relationships and partnerships within the region
  • Progressively work towards increasing organisational presence, partnerships and visibility within the education sector at large
  • Participate in school visits
  • Attend education related conferences, workshops when possible
  • Conclude MoUs with DoE and other NGOs
  • Ensure that all MOU’s are signed and filed on IY’s Online System

KPA6: Financial Management & Fundraising

  • Work together with Programme Manager to develop the regional budget in accordance with allocated regional income
  • Manage and track expenditure against regions budget
  • Guiding branches through a relevant budgeting process, in line with activities and branch needs
  • Support Fundraising team to ensure allocated income to cover regional budget
  • Share potential fundraising leads with the Fundraising team

KPA7: Staff Management

  • Lead, train and develop regional/branch support staff
  • Coordinate and manage the team to improve processes and systems, as well as increase efficiency and effectiveness in day to day tasks
  • Motivate and manage the team to successfully deliver against department objectives

Qualification & Competencies Required:

  • A related tertiary qualification
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years working experience
  • At least 2 year of management experience
  • Experience in managing a geographically dispersed team would be advantageous
  • Experience in the NGO and education sector would be advantageous
