Philip Mcelu

Philip entered the IkamvaYouth programme in 2005 as a grade 11 student at the Makhaza branch in Khayelitsha. Here is a summary of his achievements since matriculating with all his subjects on Higher Grade (including Maths and Science) in 2007.

  • Currently completing his third year of his Bachelor in Commerce degree having completed some tertiary studies at the University of Cape Town and some through University of South Africa. 
  • Has completed advance Linux training conducted by MagmaTec Software development company. 
  • He has done freelance computer consulting particularly for linux based computers including some work for one of the Ikamva labs; Impendulo Primary school and many community members. 
  • He has held other part-time jobs including Teaching Mathematics at Fezeka High school for Education without borders and is currently working part-time at SAEP also conducting Math classes for their education programme. 
  • He has continued to stay very committed to volunteering within the IkamvaYouth organization including tutoring, being an active member of the management committee as the head of the IT committee and has also assisted with volunteer coordination. He has been an active volunteer since matriculating to today!
