Lungelo Masiza

Lungelo entered the IkamvaYouth programme in 2004 as a grade 11 learner at the Makhaza branch in Khayelitsha. Here is a summary of his amazing achievements:

  • He completed matric in 2005.
  • Lungelo was actively involved in the tutoring and HIV/Aids Awareness Programme at the Makhaza branch in 2006 and 2007. 
  • He has been very successful in starting his own business - LBE (Lead by Example) Catering. He started from his home kitchen in Khayelitsha in 2006. His business has grown from strength to strength.
  • In 2010 with the assistance of TSIBA's networking he has secured himself a major opportunity that will help further his skills and remain in the hospitality industry:
    • Cheryl Nisbitt, owner of Capsicum Culinary Studio in Pinelands offered Lungelo a bursary of R10 000 to enable him to study a City & Guilds Certificate in Professional Cookery. 
    • FEDHASA's Carolyn Nevill agreed to pay 50% of Lungelo's outstanding fees.
    • Table Bay Hotel in the Waterfront agreed to pay the remaining 50% of fees and offered to sponsor his practical training in their world-class kitchens. Lungelo signed a 12-month contract as a Trainee Chef. Table Bay commends his commitment to his own catering business and is allowing him the flexibility to select shifts in a manner most conducive to the successful continuation of his own business.
